September is Healthy Aging Month and a reminder to seniors the importance of being proactive about your overall health. It is important to schedule an annual wellness visit with your primary care provider (PCP) to create or update a personalized prevention plan. This plan may help prevent illness based on your current health and risk factors.

It's especially important to stay up to date on your vaccines. Vaccines protect you from serious illness and can even keep you out of the hospital. Talk with your Caduceus physician about which vaccines may be right for you, many of which Medicare covers.

COVID-19 vaccines and booster shots-
Staying up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines (including getting all recommended boosters when eligible) will keep you best protected from severe COVID-19 illness.

Flu vaccine-
The CDC recommends getting your flu shot by the end of October to stay protected throughout flu season.

Pneumonia vaccine-
All adults 65 and older need two pneumococcal shots; the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) and the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23).If you get pneumococcal vaccines for the first time at 65 or older, you will need two shots, one year apart. If you had the pneumococcal vaccine before you were 65, you may now need one or two additional shots. If you have any questions, please message your physician through your patient portal account. 

Flu vaccines have been shown to reduce the risk of having to go to the doctor with flu by 40% to 60%, according to the CDC, and also reduces the risk of severe flu symptoms, hospitalization, ICU admission, and death.
The vaccine can also help protect those who are the most vulnerable to complications from flu viruses, which typically target children 6 months to 5 years old, as well as adults age 65 and older, according to the Mayo Clinic. In fact, the CDC states that flu vaccination can be “lifesaving” for children. A 2022 study found that flu vaccination reduced children’s risk of life-threatening influenza by 75%.
Generally, the best time to get the flu vaccine is now through the end of October so you’re protected for flu season, as the flu shot is usually in full effect two weeks after receiving the vaccine.  Although influenza viruses are detected year-round, they circulate more widely during the fall and winter months and flu season peaks December to February.  It is recommended everyone six months or older should get the flu vaccine.  
Flu shots are available at all locations while supplies last and no appointment is necessary!

A person is not asleep during hypnotherapy; but rather, in a very relaxed and alert state of mind. When you’re in the highly suggestible state of hypnosis, you and the hypnotherapist are looking to get rid of any negative, repetitive thoughts associated with sleep, including when it comes to sleep habits and hygiene. By doing so, you’re actively working to reframe your self-talk around sleep and to boost REM and restorative sleep. Here are some topics you and your hypnotherapist may tackle together:

  • What does your bedtime routine look like?
  • More specifically, what are you doing the hour before you go to bed?
  • Are you going to bed around the same time every night?

Likewise, you may discuss prescription medications or OTC aids you are using or have previously used for sleep. With hypnotherapy, we’re also looking to erase the long-term use of sleep medications, some of which can often lead to daytime drowsiness, confusion, memory problems, and so on. Keep in mind that both prescribed and OTC sleep medications, including melatonin, can potentially interfere with other prescriptions and rob you of deep sleep. Should your body become dependent, you may notice the medication doesn’t work as it once did or has created secondary problems as well. We don’t want a quick fix, we want long term results! 
So, how fast can you expect results? It depends on the person; but on average, plan on 3-5 sessions. Ideally, these sessions would take place a week apart from one another. Intermittently, you can kindly request your hypnotherapist to provide recordings of your previous sessions (the progression of relaxation into hypnosis) to playback every night.
